Introduction
The Senior Customs Clerk – Vehicle Department is responsible for handling the full customs clearing process for imported and exported motor vehicles. This includes verifying vehicle-related documentation, processing customs entries, managing permits, and ensuring compliance with SARS Customs and other regulatory bodies. The role requires extensive experience in vehicle clearances, strong technical understanding of tariff classifications for vehicles, and the ability to resolve complex customs issues efficiently.

Documentation

 

      Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations, including Bills of Entry, Import Declarations and Export Declarations.

 

      Verify and validate all required shipping documents, such as Bills of Lading, Packing Lists, and  Commercial Invoices.

 

    Ensure compliance with all import and export regulations, including tariff classifications, labeling requirements, and safety standards.

Customs Clearance

      Liaise with customs authorities to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods.

      Respond to customs inquiries and provide necessary documentation.

      Calculate and pay import duties, taxes, and other fees.

      Handle customs examinations, inspections, and audits.

 

Logistics Coordination

  •              Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and other logistics providers to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  •            Track shipments and provide updates to clients/business.
  •           Arrange for the transportation of goods from the port to the final destination.

Vehicle Clearance Documenation

  • Deregistration papers
  • NATIS documents
  • Vehicle Inspection Reports
  • Commercial Invoices
  • ITAC permits (where applicable)
  • Export certificates

Minimum requirements

• 3 years’ experience handling vehicle customs clearances (essential).
• Strong understanding of international trade regulations and customs procedures.
• Proficiency in customs clearance software and systems.
• Matric Certificate: A basic level of education is required to understand complex documentation and regulations.
• Customs Clearance Certificate: A formal qualification in customs clearance can be advantageous, as it demonstrates a solid understanding of customs procedures and regulations.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Knowledge of import/export documentation and procedures.
